Mischa Barton Biography An actress with talent and poise beyond her years, born in London and raised in New York, Mischa Barton has the kind of career most actors can only dream about. From humble beginnings in New York Theater in 1994 where she trained with such esteemed director/writers as 'James Lapine' (qv) ("Twelve Dreams" at Lincoln Center with 'Donna Murphy (I)' (qv)), 'Tony Kushner' (qv) ("Slavs!" at New York Theater Workshop with 'Marisa Tomei' (qv)), and 'Naomi Wallace (I)' (qv) ("One Flea Spare" at the Public Theatre with 'Dianne Wiest' (qv)), she went on to work side by side with modern-day screen icons including 'Julia Roberts (I)' (qv) and 'Hugh Grant (I)' (qv) on _Notting Hill (1999)_ (qv), 'Bruce Willis' (qv) and 'Toni Collette' (qv) on _The Sixth Sense (1999)_ (qv) and 'Sam Rockwell' (qv) in her Sundance critically-lauded feature film debut _Lawn Dogs (1997)_ (qv) produced by 'Duncan Kenworthy' (qv) in 1998. Mischa Barton Personal Quotes I do intelligent roles. I don't want to be labeled as doing silly movies. I'm more mature than kids my age because I'm constantly surrounded by adults. I love to draw people's faces. I do that all the time. I like playing dark, offbeat, quirky characters. It kind of irritates me that I'm seen as this pretty face. People also say I'm too thin. The truth is pretty people aren't as accepted as other people. It comes with all these stigmas. When I signed up for _"The Beautiful Life: TBL" (2009)_ (qv) and we were discussing costumes for Sonja, they asked me if I'd be prepared to have my ears pierced, so that Sonja will be able to wear the same earrings as all the other models in some of the fashion show scenes. And, as I'd already been thinking again about maybe getting them done, I figured that maybe now was the time, so I said 'OK' and got them done a couple of days later. [on finally having her ears pierced at the age of 23] It definitely does still feel a bit strange to have them done, and I'm still getting used to changing earrings - It still feels really weird to be pushing bits of metal through holes in my earlobes that weren't there a few weeks back, and actually seeing and feeling the holes in my lobes is still a bit freaky. But I'm slowly getting used to having pierced ears, and I'm glad I did get them done because I'm having loads of fun buying and trying all different kinds of earrings.
