Amy Locane Biography

Amy Locane was born in Trenton, New Jersey, and raised by her mother. She was ten years old when a local photographer spotted her and sent her picture to an agent in New York. Amy commuted to New York, accompanied by her mother, and auditioned for commercials, often doing her homework on the train. By the time she was 12, she had 50 commercials under her belt and landed her first sitcom, _"Spencer" (1984)_ (qv) on NBC, playing 'Chad Lowe (I)' (qv)'s younger sister. When she was 16, she won her first role in a film, _Lost Angels (1989)_ (qv) in which she starred opposite 'Donald Sutherland (I)' (qv) for Oscar-winning director 'Hugh Hudson' (qv). Other films quickly followed, including the cult classic _Cry-Baby (1990)_ (qv) starring 'Johnny Depp' (qv) and directed by 'John Waters (I)' (qv), _School Ties (1992)_ (qv) starring 'Ben Affleck' (qv) and 'Matt Damon' (qv) and 'Tony Richardson (I)' (qv)'s _Blue Sky (1994)_ (qv), in which she won critical raves playing 'Jessica Lange (I)' (qv)'s daughter. When she was 19, 'Aaron Spelling' (qv) picked her to be in the original cast of 'Darren Star' (qv)'s _"Melrose Place" (1992)_ (qv). All the other actors were in their mid to late 20s, so it was surprising to some, given her extensive film resume, and not surprising to others, who knew how young she was, that the young Locane was evicted after 13 episodes. After _"Melrose Place" (1992)_ (qv), she looked for edgier roles and found them in the comedy _Bongwater (1997)_ (qv), starring 'Brittany Murphy' (qv), 'Luke Wilson (I)' (qv) and 'Jack Black (I)' (qv), and the critically acclaimed and provocative drama _Carried Away (1998)_ (qv), in which she starred with 'Dennis Hopper' (qv). Amy's most recent credits include a supporting role to 'Maggie Gyllenhaal' (qv) in the indie smash _Secretary (2002)_ (qv). She has recently starred in _Mystery Woman (2003) (TV)_ (qv) for the Hallmark Channel. Amy loves acting, fashion and jogging. She currently resides in Los Angeles with her Yorkshire terrier, Joe. Amy Locane was born in Trenton, New Jersey on December 19, 1971. Her vast career included shorts, print-work, commercials, theatre, soap-operas, prime time television, and feature films. She worked consistently throughout the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s; living in New York City and Los Angeles. Her most noted and recognizable role was that of the wasp in the movie School Ties. She currently resides in New Jersey with her husband and growing family.
