Born in Madrid in 1967, Iciar Bollain has worked as leading actress in selected films like _El sur (1983)_ (qv) by 'Victor Erice' , _Malaventura (1988)_ (qv) by 'Manuél Gutiérrez Aragón' , _Un paraguas para tres (1992)_ (qv) by 'Felipe Vega (I)' (qv), _Land and Freedom (1995)_ (qv) by 'Ken Loach' (qv), _Leo (2000)_ (qv) by 'Jose Luis Borau'_, (Best Actress nomination Goya Spanish Academy Awards)_Nos miran (2002)_ (qv), or _La noche del hermano (2005)_ (qv). She is a partner of film company _Producciones La Iguana S.L. [es ] _ , writing and directing since then both documentaries and fiction films. In 1995 she wrote and directed her feature film debut, _Hola, ¿estás sola? (1995)_ (qv) awarded among others with Best New Director and Audience Award in Valladolid International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Directorial Debut by the Spanish Film Academy. The film became one of Spain's 1996 box office hits. _Flores de otro mundo (1999)_ (qv) co-written with award winning novelist 'Julio Llamazares' (qv), was her second feature film and was awarded at Cannes Film Festival 1999, Best Film in the International Critics' Week. The film was theatrically released in Spain during May 1999 and it became an acclaimed audience's and critics' choice. _Te doy mis ojos (2003)_ (qv) (Take my eyes), was her following film as writer and director, winner of 7 Goyas Spanish Academy Awards, including Best Film, among many other international awards.
